Does 1 Chronicles 16:30 teach a Flat Earth?

Evolutionists claim that 1 Chronicles 16:30 teaches that the earth is flat. Let's drill down and the verse and see what it says:

חילו מלפניו כל־הארץ אף־תכון תבל בל־תמוט

Tremble before Him, all the earth; Indeed, the world (תבל - tebel: a poetic word meaning the inhabited world) is firmly established, it will not be moved (shaken, overthrown). 1 Chronicles 16:30

The conxtext (1 Chron 16:8-36), shows that this is a psalm of thanksgiving thanking God for all his provisions, one of which is a world in which we can live that is stable, it cannot be moved, shaken, or overthrown. God has established a fixed order (cf Jer 31:35-36), He is fully in control.

This verse certainly says nothing about the earth being flat. Silly Evolutionists.

  1. are you saying that ALL "evolutionists" (strange word...) believe the bible says the Earth is flat?
I'm an evolutionist (read: educated adult with some degree of intellectual curiosity)and I don't believe that. The Qur'an on the other hand...

  2. It does say that the earth does not move though. Which implies that earthquakes and continental drift does not occur. Both are observable fact.

    1. I Chronicles 16:30, does not say that the earth 'does not move'.

I Chronicles 16:30 says: "The world shall not BE moved."

Try to go and move planet Earth.

You can't push it, pull it, or knock it off its orbital course around the sun, can you?

    2. Actually 'Anonymous' explained it correctly.

It's just one phrase which was part of a hymn King David (the Royal Bard) had written. The singer exhorts his people to remember the wondrous works of the Lord and that His kingdom may be acknowledged among the heathen, even inanimate nature will rejoice at His coming to judgment.

It's amazing how many phrases in the Bible are over-thought and/or taken out of context. It should be noted that while revelations are experienced during meditation of the Good Word it should also be noted that epiphanies can also lead to conclusions that are not meant to be reached.

Overthinking one part and turning it into something greater than its' entirety may be human nature but it proves costly when the truth is to be discerned.

    3. The physical world, not the inhabited world. Regardless it's about the world not being physically moved. Consider your stationary body can have stomach grumblings but you have not moved. A tree planted with deep roots can be blown with winds, but the roots prevent movement from it's position. Maybe you're the one not thinking enough. Many parts of scripture point to the world having foundations, a floating globe doesn't have foundations... it's floating, duh. World is looking more flat the more you read. If Jesus uses a spinning moving globe as his footstool, he would have to be spinning. Or the Lord walks over the heavens, over the 2nd realm.

    4. He spreads out the northern skies over empty space; he suspends the earth over nothing. Job 26:7 (means its floating)
Regarding the flat earth theory, the Bible doesn't support that. There are some biblical verses which indicates that the earth is round. I don't want to elaborate so much so i urge you to do some research by yourself. U will definitely find the answers like i have.

    5. Means the earth is stable not flat it dosen't move- turn. We view all the planets as round so is the earth. Every day in God's life is a thousand years in ours, So God took 7 days his time to create all seen and unseen. 2 thousand years Adam to Abraham 2 thousand Abraham to Jesus. 2 thousand Jesus to our present time total 13 thousand years everything, not millions as the Satanists want people to believe.

    6. Isaiah 24:20 KJV: The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard, and shall be removed like a cottage; and the transgression thereof shall be heavy upon it; and it shall fall, and not rise again.

Clearly describes an earthquake! However, the earth itself can not be moved off of it pillars!

    7. So where did the waters above go and also the waters below. Oh, and the firmament. Where did that go?

    8. This is the answer to Job 26:7. In the Book Of Enoch It says how the four pillars of the earth are pillars of wind: From Chapter 18: I saw the treasuries of all the winds: I saw how He had furnished with them the whole creation and the firm foundations of the earth. And I saw the corner-stone of the earth: I saw the four winds which bear [the earth and] the firmament of the heaven. And I saw how the winds stretch out the vaults of heaven, and have their station between heaven and earth: these are the pillars of the heaven.
I have looked and there is a answer to every argument against biblical cosmology and people have to make up pitiful excuses for what the bible is saying when it clearly describes a flat earth. They lean to their own understanding instead of trusting in the LORD and what his word says (Proverbs 3:5). They put their confidence in man (Psalms 118:8) and believe science falsely so called.

  4. I'm reminded of a piece of art we had in the Gallery one time by satirical artist Paul Mumme. It is a photo of the artist in his usual suit with a tether in the ground and a rope that he has tied to it as he attempts to pull the earth. It is futile to try to move the planet.

  5. But NASA says we are spinning at 1,000 MPH and we are also flying around the sun at 66,000 MPH. That does not sound like the earth is stable and shall not be moved.

  6. As a genuine bible believer, the bible DOES teach the earth is flat though.

This verse does indeed contradict the earth circling the sun. The origin of the heliocentric model comes from pagan Sun worship of Sol Invictus. Do your research. Constantine worshiped him.

Isaiah 40:22 says he sits above the CIRCLE/CIRCUIT/COMPASS of the earth (NOT SPHERE), and he stretches the firmament AS A TENT over those who dwell.

Hebrew cosmology perfectly depicts this with the circular earth having a tent-shaped firmament above.

Genesis 1 teaches that the sun, moon and stars are IN the firmament but the waters that created the flood are ABOVE the firmament.

Job 37 teaches that the firmament is hard, like a molten looking glass.

Job 38 teaches that the ends of the earth stick up, the earth is as a seal, and also teaches that the earth is FASTENED.

Revelation 6 and 12, Matthew 24 and other places teach that the stars will fall to the earth and the earth will survive. Your cosmology says that the stars are hundreds of times bigger than the earth.

Amos 6:9 teaches that there is a vaulted dome over the earth.

If evolutionists are saying the bible teaches a flat earth, then they are more honest with the bible that most Christians are.

I, for one, will not be a hypocritical Christian.

The bible also warns about falsely called science that opposes God's word. Paul told Timothy to be weary of such people.

Romans teaches that man hides the truth of creation.

  7. After reading your comment Alex, I can really say that many unwitting students of perdition really do come dressed in sheeps clothing.

The Bible is worded in such a way as to fulfill the hearts and minds of all levels of intelligence. From the ignorantly simple to the profoundly brilliant.

Metaphors in the Bible are common and used - not just to help massage and inform the minds of those with an intellect of a higher persuasion - but also those biting at the bit.

Otherwise, if I may humbly say so before the Lord God so as to not be an affront, the Father does not want any of His children (meaning all levels of intellect) feeling left out.

    Learn about metaphors.

It is true that it does not matter how smart you are to understand the bible but that is not just because of the wording, it is because of the Holy Ghost which helps you understand it. You should take the bible for what it says and if you don't you will be leaning to your own understanding.
